As a producer, Ethan has made records for Laura Marling, Ray Lamontagne, Michael Kiwanuka, The Staves, Tift Merritt, Ryan Adams, Paolo Nutini, The Vaccines, Rufus Wainwright, Crowded House, Tom Jones and Kings Of Leon! He has also won a BRIT Award for Best British Producer. Before producing he played drums and guitars for Emmylou Harris and Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Ethan’s father Glyn Johns, also a producer, made records for Bob Dylan, The Band, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Clash, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, and Led Zeppelin. Glyn produced Ethan’s debut album ‘If Not Now Then When?’ at Sunset Sound in LA, which featured contributions by Ryan Adams, Laura Marling and Danny Thompson.
Ethan’s third and new album “Silver Liner” is out now. He has been promoting it with performances on Dermot O’Leary’s Radio 2 show, Jools Holland’s Radio 2 show and Andrew Marr on BBC TV.
